At the end of your tether? Had enough of weighing food, exercise, high fat low carb, diet pills, shake it till you fake it and weight loss support groups? Well I can say many a gent and lady have crossed my doorstep with this exact frustration…
I would like to start a conversation about this, and I have lots I will be sharing on this in future but for now I want to share a thought and hope it promotes further discussion.
3 Thoughts to reflect on when reaching for a diet pill.
FIRSTLY, it is interesting that as a baby growing, you knew the exact amount of mother’s milk you required before spitting and spluttering out the excess, why is it then that you need ANYONE or ANYTHING (YES, diet pills do force certain choices) to tell you how much your body needs? [There is an answer to this and I do divulge further information in my course I am preparing now… for now let’s discuss it].
SECONDLY, we enter the blame game, I can honestly say, most diets (‘most’ – I am speaking specifically about those with science backing, may I add), most diets do work if you work it. Even the basic healthy daily diet nourishes and sustains when balanced and wholesome. Diet pills are the easiest to blame of course…
THIRDLY, could it be that we tend to ‘take on’ a diet, be it a shake, a diet pill, or a trainer so that WE DONT HAVE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR NOT SUCCEEDING? After all it is that much easier to say “Oh, that diet doesn’t work for me – those diet pills are placebo’s” than it is to say that by week 3 you were either bored stiff of chocolate shake or the diet pill made you attack your spouse. Yes, we never say “Oh boy did I cheat on that diet!!”
I am going to say this, there are many reasons why people reach for the next best diet or latest fad in how to drop fat in 1 day flat, but in all the problem diets or ‘doesn’t work diets’ or been there got the T shirt diets there is really ONLY one comanality, that would be OURSELVES. If every single diet ‘TRY’ – my pet peeve word by the way – is a failure, then it may not be the diets that are the problem?
You see, it is MUCH EASIER to blame a broken tool for the job not being done than it is to say “yeah, it was me, I just didn’t get it right”. I know this as I have done this before. Guilty.
The question is why is this so, what is it about lack of responsibility which feeds the billion dollar industry so flatly? I personally think we have the Neanderthal to partially thank. I believe our extremely old internal drive says:
firstly, you cannot fail at anything or you will get kicked out of the tribe – you weakling you,
secondly if you don’t attempt the latest fad diet you are not part of the tribe – oh dear cold nights and no food which will lead to Die-t , so failing or non compliance puts you in danger of rebuttal… and possibly death, if you lived back then. We are more sheep than we would like to admit, after all, safety is in numbers.
But let’s not leave it there. It is a massive conversation and I am hoping someone somewhere for once goes… oh my word let me get this right, no more quick fixes, no more diet pills, it is about me! Yes YOU inside OUT.
“Health is a relationship between you and your body.”
Greater awareness of health but illness escalates? Something is wrong with our equations.
As the awareness of better health escalates and we celebrate the need and use of healthier choices, organic foods, good exercise and meditation I found myself in the Drug Dealer/ Pharmacy/AKA drug-suppliers-to-mass-market recently getting some great Ox Bile supplements and some-regretably so, anti-inflammatory for a tooth that was out of control – at my age the damage is root deep.
As I stood there the pharmacist and I start chatting, and I ask her straight up…
“Are more people getting sick?”
Without batting an eyelid or thinking for a split second or for that matter even looking up to respond in her haste (there were 5 customers in the que behind me) she responded
“You will not believe!!! It’s is crazy!!!
Me: “Uhhhhh, actually, I do believe you… have you noticed the quality of your food lately? I trust you don’t keep your own goat or grow your own veggies, as I am sure most of the people who are standing in this queuedon’t either… sad state of affairs”
she nodded, half listening to my blabbering sob story of undernourishment and calorie deficits… and so, I turned my attention to those around me instead… therein the realization that the world we know ain’t so…. there stood a ‘healthy’ looking lady being served right next to me, in front of her lay at least 5 prescription letters from a doctor, being packed by her pharmacist. I had to work hard at holding back the gasp that left my throat. A list for hubby, for her and clearly for children. We are featherlight in our understanding of what we are feeding our families, be it foods or drugs… Then let us not even get into the discussion about the pills we use for dieting!
You, Inside Out, started in thought and action in 2011, BORN and driven by a desire to have a positive impact on physical and mental health and wellness, this included people we had the blessing of working with and myself personally.
A little bit about me… yes yes, I know, there IS an About us section, but this IS the first blog, and YOU don’t have a clue who I am…

Have you ever taken a road and realized that even though the scenery was AMAZING, the company was great, the car was handling soooo well on the road and that your driving was effortless that MAYBE, just MAYBE, you were driving in the wrong direction? Born at the wrong time maybe? Herein lies the analogy of my life. I left school, studied Landscape Architecture at Uni, worked, opened a couple of my own businesses, got married, had children (x2 and beautiful they are!) and all was peachy, as planned… or was it?
track a couple of years and the following comes my way, (of course I did
collaborate with the Universe to ensure the occurrence and direction my life was taking at this time – even
though I only realised that later… why did no one bother to let me in on
I crack my skull falling off a horse named Kelvin (he and the Universe were in cahoots)
I got divorced
I lost both my parents 9 months apart
I lost my existing stream of income – basically I was jobless
was in a period of 7 years – did
you notice the domino logo?
So in this hurricane of events my passion for mental and physical (and soul) health emerged, my desire to connect both of these with a spiritual aspect which until prior to the 7 years was ‘non-existent’ – what possessed me!?
and I do mean EVERYTHING, is an outward expression of our inward being. I now speak and live this understanding, trust
me some days I wish I had remained naïve as I start facing brutal realities
that I am the co-creator of my reality.
The result is this website, which is a blog and a web page, for the courses and coaching I am involved in when it comes to health and wellness.
My credentials (do we still need those these days?), I was born in a little town of Oudtshoorn in South Africa, (where you find a lot of ostriches and great wine!) moved to the Free State where I received my schooling. Then I moved up to Pretoria where I studied Landscape Architecture. I am an amazing landscape architect, well, I was, this has helped me scrutinize and assess life holistically, it has helped me see that bigger picture and PLAN! I have been in the Health and Wellness industry for since 2011 and am a certified Fatloss Coach (‘they‘ call it weight loss but REALLY I am only interested in fat loss!) Reiki practitioner, Hypnotherapist, Life and Mindfulness Coach with an integrative approach of Energy Healing, the undeniable Chakras and all of consciousness. Oh, I am a MOM too – Massively-Overemotional-Mentor to 2 beautiful children, this alone makes me a near expert on life :).
Besides this, I am here to serve YOU. Please feel free to comment, contact, interact, ZOOM, train, be coached with me. This is a growing site and I look forward to our journey working with YOU from the INSIDE OUT.
